Kuu (Eng: Moon) bears a symbolic meaning for a lighting designer as a reflector of the largest source of light.
Design of a lighting fixture is also designing a reflector or diffuser for a light source.
The exhibition gathers the recent lighting designs of eight well-known Finnish and Estonian designers. The idea
originates from 2017 when the curator of the exhibition Tõnis Vellamaa saw the new prototypes of the masters
Taevo Gans, Simo Heikkilä and Mait Summatavet. Being different from each ohter, they are tied into similar
modernist clean and honest approach both in for and material.
Current exhibition is complemented with the works of well-known designers Yrjö Kukkapuro, Yrjö
Wiherheimo, Hannu Kähönen, Jouko Järvisalo and Jüri Kermik.
The desginers have known each other for a long time as colleagues and friends. Many of them best
known as furniture designers, some have displayed their works together but as such a team and with
lightings they are exhibiting for the first time arriving to Tallinn straight from the Habitare fair in Helisinki.
